چکیده

Analytical recovery of urinary p-aminobenzoic acid liberated from bentiromide(N-benzoyl-L-tyrosyl-p-aminobenzoicacid) was determinedby roomtemperaturephosphorimetryas an index to exocrine pancreatic function. Metabolites were hydrolyzed to the parent compound in 4 mol/L NaOH, then quantified, after pH adjustment, by spothng 3 L of this solution onto filter paper treated with potassium iodide and measuring the resulting phosphorescence relative to a standard curve. The method is sufficiently precise, and results compare well with those by the Bratton-Marshall colorimetric method (r = 0.993) for determining p-aminobenzoic acid in urine from patients undergoing the bentiromide test. The present procedure is rapid and is more selective than are colorimetric procedures.

Exocrine pancreatic function as determined in a same-day test with use of bentiromide and p-aminosalicylic acid.

We describe a new approach to the bentiromide test of exocrine pancreatic function, p-Aminosalicylic acid (PAS), a compound closely related to the bentiromide fragment p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), is used as a marker of the pharmacokinetic behavior of PABA to derive a PABA excretion index. This index is identical to that derived with [14C]-PABA. Concentrations of both PABA and PAS are measured i...

Simplified oral pancreatic function test.

The standard Bentiromide test and a new modified test using p-aminosalicylic acid (PAS) as a pharmacokinetic marker for p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) have been evaluated in the detection of pancreatic exocrine insufficiency in children. The conventional two day test using a colorimetric assay for urinary PABA discriminated poorly between five children with pancreatic insufficiency and 13 others wi...

Enzymatic method for selective determination of 4-aminobenzoic acid in urine.

We developed a method for the selective determination of 4-aminobenzoic acid by use of 4-aminobenzoate hydroxylase (EC 1.14.13.27) to convert 4-aminobenzoic acid to 4-hydroxyaniline. The subsequent conversion of 4-hydroxyaniline to indophenol dye was quantified colorimetrically. The method is reproducible, and the assay response is linear up to 40 mumol/L. Selectivity exceeding that of the curr...

Simultaneous assessments of exocrine pancreatic function by cholesteryl-[14C]octanoate breath test and measurement of plasma p-aminobenzoic acid.

Two noninvasive tests for assessing pancreatic exocrine function, the cholesteryl-[14C]octanoate breath test and the HPLCN-benzoyl-tyrosyl-p-aminobenzoic acid/p-aminosalicylic acid (NBT-PABA/PAS) test, were simultaneously performed in nine patients with pancreatic exocrine insufficiency due to chronic pancreatitis and in nine healthy volunteers. 14CO2 output in breath and plasma PABA concentrat...

The BTPABA pancreatic function test in giardiasis.

The test for exocrine pancreatic function using N-benzoyl-L-tyrosyl-p-aminobenzoic acid (BTPABA test) was assessed in 7 patients with giardiasis and 7 healthy controls. Cumulative percent p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) recovery in 6 hr was significantly lower in patients with giardiasis, compared with the control group. When an equivalent dose of free PABA was given, there were no differences in PA...
